From Busy to Being: The (Short) Story Behind “Life Beyond Busy”
When I first started teaching yoga, I didn’t have a niche. Most teachers don’t. I loved guiding movement, breath, and rest, especially for beginners. But, over time, some kind of focus was missing.
If you’ve practiced with me, you know I don’t teach yoga for aesthetics. You’ve probably heard me say, “there are no Instagram photo-takers here,” or “no awards for going deeper in poses.” And I’ve said it hundreds of times because it matters.
As someone who lived like an Energizer Bunny for decades, my yoga practice illuminated why I was so over-committed and perpetually busy.
Sitting in stillness, with yourself, is hard.
Feeling all the feelings without beating yourself up is hard. Saying no, setting priorities, and disappointing some people some of the time is hard. Prioritizing rest and wellbeing in a culture that glorifies achievement and productivity—where “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” is a badge of honor… is really hard.
But the practice - the one we do together, with breathing, slowing down, feeling, and sitting with it all - helped me understand the reasons behind my busyness. I’m not talking about the unavoidable kind of busy: commutes, multiple jobs, bills, medical realities. I mean the sneaky kind: coping, avoiding, distracting ourselves from the harder truths about who we are and how we think about ourselves. It was easier for me to stay busy until I dropped at night, rinse, and repeat.
As I came to see this in myself, I began to notice it in friends, family, students, even kids, too. Lives overflowing with lists. Constant doing. Running from place to place, disconnected from self. The overwhelming, stretched-thin feeling of being busy for the sake of busy. I’ve lived all of it.
That’s when my work began to expand. It needed to expand. Because for me, yoga was never just about poses. It’s about creating space, choosing presence, and remembering who we are when we step out of the rush.
That’s why I created Life Beyond Busy. It’s more than yoga classes: it’s retreats, practices, writing, courses (coming soon!), and moments designed to help you untangle from the noise and step into joy, freedom, and connection.
This is the heartbeat of my work now: guiding you toward a life you love, not just one you manage.
✨ Here’s to moving beyond busy, together. The expansion is still in progress, and maybe it always will be. Let me know what you think?
